At least 30 furniture producers in Central Java prepared to switch their export market to Middle East countries. This is to anticipate the decreasing inquiry of furniture from United States, which might decrease up to 20 percent in 2009.

According to the chairman of Indonesia Association of  Furniture and Crafts Indonesia (Asmindo) Mr. Anggoro Rahmadiputro, until the end of November 2008, as impact of the global financial crisis, there no longer inquiry or shipment  of goods (furniture) from Europe and the U.S.

Currently, most of the furniture producers in Jepara, Solo, Semarang, and Banyumas only complete the contract orders which have been received until the end of 2008. Due to the global financial crisis, the goods can be fulfilled according to the contract target, but there are a number of delays in payment from the buyer, especially in the U.S.

Anggoro Rahmadiputro sadi, diversion of furniture export markets, especially indoor furniture to the Middle East has good prospects. The target countries are Egypt, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and Dubai, while for the regional market such as Malaysia and Brunei. Before the crisis, the average cumulative export of furniture from Central Java is in range 400 million to 600 million U.S. dollars per year.
